It was aright: fast, meh price, dealer network is convinently close to my school . I still cannot fathom why they have such a bad reputation in the US.

They have a bad reputation because for years Kia built cheap, terrible cars. This meant dealers had to be slimy to make much money, and customers were willing to tolerate slimy dealers because they could get a cheap car (or two, with one of those two for one sales Kia dealers used to do).

That means a lot of Kia dealers have picked up bad habits, that are hard for Kia to break, as dealers are well protected by US laws.

The dealers are often difficult to deal with and don’t seem to view the customer as a priority.

I was once turned away from one of the dealers because I said I just wanted to drive the car and I didn’t want to talk numbers. I said I wasn’t sure I was even interested but I figured I’d give it a chance. The salesman made a rude and snide remark and said he didn’t want to do a test drive unless I was serious about buying, so we left. This was for an Optima.

I’ve never before had a dea le r treat me like that. I’ve even had some other dealers give me the keys and drive unattended. I can’t imagine why a dealer would turn down the chance to get someone in their car other than laziness or a complete lack of customer focus.

They are not worth dealing with when considering buying anything new.

I did ask if they’d lend me a car while mine was in service, but they hesitated and I can sort of see why, but otherwise it was quite nice.

Scheduling it took me the better part of 5 minutes after giving my VIN, they gave me the price, the time, and the date

I arrived, unnanounced, 30 minutes beforehand, they offered me coffee, and greeted me, they took in my car in less than 10 minutes and with a detailed list of little scratch and dent it has, gave it to me and told me to come back in a few hours.

An hour or so ago the rep called me and I thought it was the slimey moment, the moment to tell me about blinker fluid or something like that, but he just said my car was almost ready and that they’d wash it before delivering it.

Bad build quality for most of it’s run in America, the most slimy dealers ever and some of the wor st dealership practices.

They are know to fake approve people and to offer unrealistic prices in ads. They are well know on getting people who are down in their luck with high interest rates. Kia was at one point the used car lot of the new car world, with some of the same practices. I’m not saying this is true now but the stigma exists because most Kia dealers back in the late 90s and early 00s did do it.

Kia needs some damn dealership quality control, I hear in some places this shit still happens

Yeah, if Kia just showed up today, I’d be impressed. For almost 20 years in the US, they were THE lowest-priced, most gimmicky dealer of all. It will take them another 20 years to shake it, easily.

“$5,000 minimum for your trade-in!”

“Buy one, get one free!” (no kidding...basically you overpay for an SUV and they’ll give you a base model crapper in addition)

probably cuz they knew as soon a s you drove it, it was game over. At least if you drove it knowing they were pretty much going to give it away you might retain some interest

We’ve had a pretty good service experience with ours. Of course, I get a few more perks that come with the K900, but my wife has been treated pretty well with the Sedona. I think it comes down to the bar corporate sets. If it’s too low, you can still find a good dealership, but that will depend on the personal standard of the owner, while there are others who will suck and not get weeded out.

The bad rep is partly from the cars back in the day and partly from the high pressure, COME ON DOWN WE’LL APPROVE ANYONE, JUST DON’T ASK US ABOUT THE INTEREST RATE! sales tactics.

I don’t know what to make of this dealer, the one where I bought my car is most excellent, but its in Veracruz.

I did get to see them approach a Sportage with a menacing looking airgun, but according to the rep, they do the bolts to factory spec.
